I did it!! 5K here I come....????

Well, here is another thing I am going to throw out to cyberworld.....this morning was my official start of training for a 5K run.  The Avera Race for the Cure is in May and I plan to run a 5K (for more information you can click here.

I am hoping by sharing this information with all of you it will help me stay accountable and possible encourage some of you to join me in this challenge.  I am stepping out of my box and comfort zone.  I don't know if I can complete this goal.  I do know that I have set a plan in place and I am going to give it my best effort.  For those of you who may be interested in running a 5K, there is a really awesome plan called  from couch to 5K at Cool Runnings.

As I was completing my first day of training this morning...I started thinking about a recent conversation I had with my 21 year old son.  I was explaining to him that in life we need to have goals, remembering that to achieve our goals it typically requires planning, discipline, and often times sacrificing.  So, as my children watch me work towards my goal of a 5K, I am modeling to them a life skill.

As, with most goals...the encouragement and support of others motivate us, so I will be popping in here with random blogs entries on how my training is going.

How about you...

What goals have you set for yourself?
How can I help motivate you?

Blessings on your day!

Go. Go. Go. Go. How's that for cheering? Oh, and here's your virtual glass of water. Need a little back rub? I'm here for you. My goal is to see this play to production and keep on going with play-writing.

Kim, I am currently training to run a 5k at midnight on April Fools. I am using the Couch to 5k program also. It really is great and makes the process a lot easier. If you have a smartphone like a droid there is also a c25k app in case you run outside and don't want to be tied to the clock. It dings everytime you are supposed to change from running to walking and vice versa. I just have the free version and it works well for me. There are also c25k podcasts out there.

When I started I had trouble with week 1, and now I'm going 20 minutes straight. It's amazing to watch your own progress. Good luck and I know that you'll do amazing!

Kim, Thanks for joining in at my blog. And congrats on the 5k run, I know you can do it.

We have a lot in common. I am a nurse (now I stay home, but I keep up my license) and my husband is an oncologist. Small world.

Praying for you as you continue your journey. Are you going to She Speaks this year? I went last year and am planning to go this year. Anyway, blessings to you!

Kim, Good for you! My husband and I are planning a 10K, but we will walk. It is in May also and I have surgery in April, so who knows if I'll actually be able to even walk it, but it's a goal. I agree with you, goals are good. Last year I walked it days before my bilateral, so this is a mental goal as well. Good luck training, maybe you'll motivate me too!! I think I'll need it.
