We will be spending the month of March discussing healthy food choices, portion control, recipes, etc.

In June 2011, the USDA released the new MyPlate Icon to help Americans make healthier choices.  For those of you who haven't seen the MyPlate:

If you haven't heard of MyPlate, check out their awesome website: Choose MyPlate  Below is listed some tips from their site to get you started on your healthy eating journey.

Balancing Calories

Enjoy your food, but eat less.
Avoid oversized portions.

Foods to IncreaseMake half your plate fruits and vegetables.
Make at least half your grains whole grains.
Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.

Foods to Reduce
Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals and choose the foods with lower numbers.
Drink water instead of sugary drinks

All good tips. I need to make more veggies available at mealtimes, even cutting up some carrots & broccoli is enough to increase a few portions.

I love these tips & the ones from last week's post about aerobic activity- short, simple, encouraging reminders of how we can take better care of ourselves. I used to teach aerobics, & my participants appreciated mini lessons like you've shared here. Great posts!
