C is for Courage

C is for courage

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Before my mastectomy, my oldest daughter had members from our church write words of love/support on individual quilt squares. Kalina than assembled the squares, making me a “love quilt.” On one of the squares, my dear friend J. (who is also a breast cancer survivor) wrote one word: Courage.

I have done many things in my life that took courage…but walking into the chemo room took every ounce of courage I had in me. Chemotherapy and I were not friends. It didn’t like me and boy, did it let me know. I would start to feel better from one treatment just in time for the next…I still cringe thinking about it.

Courage means different things to different people. Here are just a few things that courage means to me.

Courage is:
  • to say no
  • to say yes
  • to be authentic
  • to reach out to others
  • to face rejection
  • to admit you are wrong
  • to say I am sorry
  • to say I love you
  • to ask for forgiveness
  • to show that I care
  • to speak the truth
  • to follow my dreams
  • to listen to God plans
  • to live a life of no regrets

Q. What does courage mean to you?

That's one of my favorite verses. Courage is turning and facing your fears. Courage is standing up to a bully. Courage is taking that next step.

Some days, courage is waking up in the morning, getting out of bed, and facing the day with a smile. :)

Wonderful post and I love the idea of that quilt - what a wonderful gift to receive.

What a great post. Courage means all those things to me as well.
My f-i-l went thru chemo too and he said the same thing about it.
